Florida State University has made the decision to temporarily waive the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) requirements for most Master’s and Specialist programs. Test scores are still required for admission to The College of Business and doctoral programs.
In addition, many graduate programs offer GRE/GMAT waiver opportunities to those that meet the requirements. For a full list of programs that offer the GRE/GMAT waiver and requirements, click here.

ETS offers free and low-cost test preparation materials including practice tests, sample questions with explanations, scoring guides and tips for answering question types. In addition, ETS also provides information on what to expect while taking the GRE, Test Center procedures and regulations, and information regarding what to bring for the GRE.
ETS offers a Fee Reduction Program for individuals who can demonstrate financial need, for those who are unemployed and receiving unemployment compensation, and for national programs that work with underrepresented groups. A GRE Fee Reduction Voucher may be used for one GRE® General Test and/or one GRE® Subject Test. Voucher users pay 50 percent of the regular test fee. GRE and GMAT both offer online, at home testing options for those who meet the requirements. For more information about the GRE At-Home test, and to register for it, please visit the ETS website. More information about the GMAT Online Exam can be found here.

Each department sets their own application deadline. Please reach out to the department directly to ask about their deadline and if they can work with applicants past their deadline.
Domestic Requirements: University policy allows for application review based on unofficial U.S. transcripts. In most cases, you will not need to submit official transcripts until your first semester at FSU. Please contact your department to see if they have additional transcript requirements. If you are an international applicant, or earned degrees from international institutions, you must submit official transcripts through the SpanTran pathway portal, or from another NACES approved evaluator.
International Requirements: Florida State University only allows for application review with unofficial transcripts from U.S. institutions. If an applicant has a transcript from a non-U.S. and U.S. institution then, we must wait for the credential evaluation to be received before proceeding with the application review. Florida State University will accept SpanTran evaluation in lieu of official transcripts.
Our departmental admissions committees are working hard to review completed applications and promptly make decisions. Updates to your application will be reflected on your Online Status Check. Your department will be able to provide you with an estimate as to when you can expect to receive a decision.
The University requires that students have health insurance, but if you have specific concerns or questions, please contact the UHS health compliance staff.
